SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - With the San Francisco Bay Area's air quality still too hazardous for sporting events, it was announced that LIU Brooklyn's men's basketball game against the University of San Francisco scheduled for Sunday will be moved to Cal State Monterey Bay, maintaining the 5:00 p.m. start time (8 p.m. ET).
As of Friday afternoon, at 2:00 p.m. San Francisco's AQI (Air Quality Index) has reached the "Very Unhealthy" category. Additionally, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has said that readings are likely to get worse moving forward as the smoke from the Butte County fires continue to filter into the Bay Area.
"After monitoring the Air Quality Index forecasts in San Francisco for the next 48 hours we have decided to move our Sunday doubleheader game to Cal State Monterey Bay, where the AQI projects to be much lower on Sunday," said USF Director of Athletics, Scot Sidwell. "Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those facing the tragedy and catastrophic loss that is unfolding throughout many California communities due to the wildfires. We are thankful to the many people in the Bay Area that are focused on the safety of our community. We will look forward to playing our games on Sunday as scheduled thanks to the great people at Cal State Monterey Bay."
The USF women's basketball game Sunday was also moved; the games are two of several sporting events all over the Bay Area that have been postponed or canceled.
The game will still have live stats, but the previously scheduled video live stream has been canceled.
