BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn men's basketball senior Raul Frias was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Frias becomes the first Blackbird to earn a weekly honor from the conference this season, and it is also the first NEC honor of his career.
Frias comes off a career game that saw the senior guard hit 7-9 from three-point range en route to a personal-best 21 points as LIU Brooklyn moved over .500 with a 74-58 win at Saint Peter's on Saturday. Frias hit all three of his shots from downtown in the first half, then scored 12 points in the second half on 4-6 shooting from outside the arc to help the Blackbirds outscore the Peacocks, 40-24, after the teams went into the break tied up. The seven triples were also a career-high and he added three rebounds in 28 minutes of work off the bench. Frias lifted his scoring average to 8.3 ppg and he ranks second on LIU with 20 three-pointers on the year.
Up next, the Blackbirds head out to Hempstead, N.Y., to take on Stony Brook, Wednesday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m.
