USTFCCCA Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn track & field head coach
Simon Hodnett was named the Northeast Region Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the year, it was announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). One of the most decorated coaches in LIU Athletics history, Hodnett earned the regional honor on the women's side for the first time in his distinguished career.
Hodnett and his staff were recognized by the USTFCCCA in 2015 on the men's side, after the team won their third consecutive Northeast Conference championship, but he has never been recognized by the national organization for his work with the women's program.
Hodnett, in his 17th year at LIU Brooklyn, led the Blackbirds to the Northeast Conference team championship with a conference-record total of 109 points. The team title marks their seventh overall conference championship, and the first since 2011. The seven team titles also stands as an NEC record for titles by a program.
Hodnett, the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2003, has earned eight NEC Coaching Staff of the year honors, including as recently as 2017, when the LIU staff was named the men's track & field Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year.
He and his staff were also honored by the NEC during five men's indoor seasons (2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016), and a pair of women's indoor campaigns (2010 and 11).
