BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2018 Division I Baseball Awards and All-ECAC selections Thursday morning, and LIU Brooklyn baseball senior Andrew Turner was among the honorees. The first baseman earned All-ECAC second team honors for the first time in his career.
Turner becomes the first Blackbird to earn ECAC honors since current assistant coach John Ziznewski was named an ECAC All-Star in 2014. The duo are the only two baseball players in recent history to earn ECAC honors.
Turner, who also earned first team All-NEC honors, and who was named to the NEC All-Tournament team, helped lead the Blackbirds to their first NEC Championship tournament title ever last weekend, and will take part in the NCAA Regional this weekend at Coastal Carolina.
Turner leads the Blackbirds at the plate, hitting .344 this season, which also ranks him third in the Northeast Conference. He also ranks 10th in the nation and leads both LIU and the NEC in on base percentage (.498). The senior is also 27th in the nation in hit by pitch per game (0.36). Turner, who hails from King of Prussia, Pa., is also closing in on the school's all-time doubles record with a career-high 15 double this year, to put his career total at 42. He needs two to tie and three to break the all-time record, set by former teammate Pete Leonello from 2011-14. Turner also has five home runs on the year, which is tied for second on the team.
