2018-19 LIU Brooklyn Bowling Schedule
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- LIU Brooklyn bowling head coach Kayla Jones announced the team's the 2018-19 schedule Friday, which will feature some of the best events in the nation. The team's first competitive meet begins Saturday, October 13.
The Blackbirds, coming off of a 75-win season and a second place finish in the Northeast Conference standings, will once again travel to 11 different tournaments, which includes two NEC regular season meets and conclude with the NEC Championships in late March.
"Our schedule has changed a little this year," said Jones. "It includes many of the events we have been to, with a few changes. More importantly, it is spaced out a little more to give us times to rest and prepare in between tournaments, both mentally and physically. Each tournament brings a great field of competitors and has tough and intense matches, so the regroup is well needed."
LIU opens with Kutztown's annual Bud Whitman Memorial event, October 13-14 in Reading, Pa. and follow up with the SHU Bowl for the Cure at Sacred Heart in East Haven, Conn. on Saturday, October 20. The Blackbirds will also have two events in November, with the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic Nov. 9-11, and the UMES Hawk Classic a week later, Nov. 16-18. LIU finishes the calendar year with the first Northeast Conference Meet, December 1-2 in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
The 2019 calendar year leads off with two events hosted by Kutztown. The Kutztown Invitational is first, from January 18-20 at a new site in Limerick. Pa. Next, following a two-week break, the Golden Bear Classic will be held back in Reading, Pa. from February 8-10.
In late February the Blackbirds will start the final stretch, beginning with the second NEC meet of the year, February 22-24 at Berks Lanes in Reading, Pa. Two more regular season weekends in March will wrap up the regular season: the Monmouth Hawk Flight Invitational (March 1-3), and the Vanderbilt Music City Classic (March 15-17).
The postseason begins March 22-24, at Howell Lanes, in Howell, N.J., with the 2019 Northeast Conference Championships. The winner of that event earns automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships, taking place April 11-13 in Cleveland, Ohio.
"With automatic qualifiers for conferences only in the second year of existence in our sport, our primary focus is still on NEC play," Jones said. "So this schedule pairs well for us. We can't wait to get started next month."
LIU finished last season with a 75-44 overall record, and ranked No. 15 in the nation by the National Tenpin Coaches' Association.
