BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The LIU Brooklyn softball team improved to 7-0 this season at LIU Field on Saturday with a Northeast Conference doubleheader sweep of NYC rival Wagner, 9-1 and 12-4, with both games ending in 5 innings on the run rule. The Blackbirds (25-14, 7-1) hit .520 on the day and tied for their season high with 13 hits in each game, highlighted by an 11-run third inning in game two. Prior to the game the team honored it's two seniors first baseman Schae Dickson and outfielder Amanda Domingo, as this was the final originally scheduled conference games on the schedule.

GAME 1: LIU 9, WAGNER 1 (5 innings)               17242
Blackbirds' leadoff hitter Patricia Griffin started the home half of the first by blasting a triple down the right field line and came home in the next at bat, when freshman Camryn Lyman hit a single through the right side.  Fellow frosh Samantha Garcia had the eventual game-winning RBI with an infield single later in the inning and sophomore Ryleigh Bermea had a sacrifice fly to score her classmate Alina Castillo to give LIU a 3-0 lead after one inning.

Another triple and a trio of walks in the second inning gave Garcia her second run batted in of the game and put LIU up 4-0. Then in the fourth frame, sophomore shortstop Kiana Cisneros hit an inside the park home run to give the home team a commanding 7-0 lead.

The Seahawks scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth, to cut the lead to 7-1, but freshman hurler Elena Valenzuela (13-3) threw her 12th complete game of the season (4th in NEC play) yielding five hits and striking out three batters in five innings.

GAME 2: LIU 12, WAGNER 4 (5 innings)
Wagner (13-25, 3-9) put up a pair of runs in each of the first two innings to stake a 4-0 lead early in game two, but the Blackbird bats started raking in the bottom of the second inning. Castillo led off with a double, followed by a single from Garcia to put a runner on third for Cisneros who hit a double to cut the lead to 4-1.       17243

Then in the third inning, 16 Blackbirds came to bat, collecting 10 hits and scoring 11 runs. Dickson, Castillo and Garcia each doubled in the frame, while Castillo and Garcia each had a pair of hits and three runs batted in during the inning. Also, seven different players scored runs in the frame, while Griffin, Dickson and Castillo each scored two times; and five different players had at lead one run batted in.

Junior Tallie Woodson, who came out of the bullpen in the second inning (2-1) picked up her second win, going the final 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, only giving up four hits and no walks.
