WICHITA, Kan.— LIU Brooklyn baseball senior Brock Hallum is one of 14 catchers added to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Watch List, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced.
Hallum has appeared in all 46 games for the Blackbirds this season, making 38 starts behind the plate. He ranks second on the team with a .411 on-base percentage. The California native, holds the school single-season record with 45 walks on the year. That mark ranks first in the in the NEC and ranks in the top-20 nationally. Defensively, Hallum has gunned down 24 runners attempting to steal.
He is the lone NEC representative among the 91 catchers nominated for the award. The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 17, 2019. Ballots will be sent to the national voting panel at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 3, 2019. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 22nd Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 27, 2019.
Georgia Tech catcher, Joey Bart, was named the catcher of the year last June. Alex Holderbach of Eastern Kentucky University and Reynaldo Pastrana of Marshall University were the other finalists for the award.
LIU opens a weekend series at Bryant this afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. start at Conaty Park.
