NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The LIU Brooklyn baseball team fell to Central Connecticut State in the series finale Sunday afternoon, dropping a 13-4 decision to the Blue Devils. LIU stands at 11-25 on the season, and 4-8 in the Northeast Conference.
LIU got off to a good start, scoring in the top of the first inning. Senior
Brian Lamboy had a one-out double down the left field line, and scored on junior
Harrison Preschel's single up the middle, putting the Blackbirds up, 1-0.
CCSU evened the score up in the bottom of the third. A lead-off double and a single put the run in scoring position, and an RBI single tied the game, 1-1. The Blue Devils took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs on three hits and an RBI groundout to go up, 3-1.
LIU answered in the top of the fifth. Junior
Charles Misiano led off with a single, and advanced to second on an error. A wild pitch put him in scoring position, and Lamboy's fielder's choice gave him the chance to score, closing the gap to 3-2.
CCSU went up again in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs on two hits and an error, 5-2. LIU's next run came in the top of the sixth.
Andrew Turner led off getting hit by a pitch, and was advanced to third on
Mark Hernandez's fly out. Senior
John Knauth brought the run home, and LIU was within two, 5-3.
The Blue Devils added another run in the bottom of the sixth and five more in the bottom of the seventh, to take the lead, 11-3. LIU's fourth run came on an RBI single from freshman
Luis Arias de los Santos in the eighth inning, but CCSU answered with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the eighth, to take the game by a final score of 13-4.
