2017-18 NEC Winter Commissioner's Honor Roll
SOMERSET, N.J. - The Northeast Conference announced its 2017-18 Winter Academic Award winners Thursday afternoon, including the winter sports' Academic Honor Roll and the Commissioner's Honor Roll. 45 LIU Brooklyn student-athletes were honored by the conference for their work in the classroom.
The NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll consists of 600 student-athletes with a 3.20 or better grade point average, a 11.3 percent increase from 2016-17. There were also 186 student-athletes named to the Winter Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing those superior student-athletes with a 3.75 or better grade point average. The Commissioner's Honor Roll figure represents a whopping 32.9 percent increase from a year ago.
The Blackbirds had 13 student athletes recognized as a part of the Commissioner's Honor Roll, more than tripling the number of student athletes recognized last year. Bowling and women's swimming each had three athletes honored:
Kellie Frain,
Lauren McKowen and
Marlee Tyler were honored for bowling, while freshmen
Jodi Hawki,
Amanda Peren and
Jeanne Touchette-McGowan all earned the award from the swim team. From women's basketball, graduate student
Denisha Petty-Evans was honored, while indoor track & field led the way with six honorees:
Alban Lefeuvre,
Beresford Sweeney,
Ashton Burton,
Stephanie Esogenwune,
Eugenie Hue and
Sarah Northup.
In total, 45 LIU Brooklyn student athletes were named to the NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll. The NEC Championship-winning women's indoor track & field team led the way with 12 honorees, while the women's swimming team was next, with 11. Both bowling and men's indoor track & field had eight athletes honored, while men's and women's basketball added three honorees apiece. The complete list of athletes honored is available here:
